Adelaide tourist information

The capital of South Australia, is a great place to take the family for a holiday.  It is known as the city within a park, completely surrounded by green space, no less the 29 parks including playgrounds, sports grounds and lakes ring the city.

Adelaide boosts an unspoilt 30km stretch of beach within 15min from the city centre.  The beaches are safe for children, and most of Adelaide's foreshore offers green grassed areas to picnic and play.  There are shops, restaurants and marinas.

The Adelaide Hills are located 20 minutes from the city centre and offer bushwalking, orienteering, wildlife parks, sporting facilities and great bbq spots.  The Hills town are ripe in history with a strong German influence, the historic cottages now sell beautiful arts and crafts, they have top german pubs and fabulous bakeries, try the beestings (a cake with german origins).

To the South, are the coastal towns of Victor Harbour and Port Elliot, they offer great beaches and whale watching in season.  It makes a great day trip taking in some of the McLaren Vale Wineries on the way.

Adelaide has a great public transport system and nothing is very far away.  It is quite easy to find your way around the city, the roads run like a grid from North - South and West - East.

Adelaide can experience some very hot days in summer and very wet and cold ones in winter, but overall they have a good climate.  The best times to visit would probably be summer, autumn or spring.

There is plenty of choice when it comes to accomodation, if you are after a beach holiday check out Glenelg (they have a tram to the city, shops, restuarants and a marina) or West Beach.  If you are wanting a city holiday, staying anywhere in the CBD will put you within walking distance to most places.
