Mission Beach - is a beachside community located between Cairns and Townsville in Far North Queensland. Mission Beach is beautifully positioned between world heritage rainforest and the stunning Great Barrier Reef. It boasts 14km's of beach backed by swaying palms and rainforest. Offshore are the beautiful Family Group of islands including the famous Dunk and Bedarra Islands, and just south is the largest island National Park in the world, Hinchinbrook Island. There is plenty to do for a nature loving family here, head to Dunk Island, just a day trip or water taxi ride away. Take a cruise through the mangroves looking for crocodiles and mud crabbing. Bushwalk through the surrounding National Parks, your chances of seeing a cassowary in the wild are fairly good here. Or if you are after an adrenalin buzz head to the Tully River, about 10km inland for some white water rafting. Mission beach offers great swimming beaches suitable for kids but you must swim in stinger nets for several months of the year. Remember to check!! Mission Beach has a tropical climate with most of their rain falling between Dec and April, but it will still be hot. Their winters are just gorgeous. |
