Do you love stunning beaches? Then the Cook Islands is for you! Unspoilt beaches, tropical islands, a surprising lack of large resort developments, white sand and absolute tranquility...welcome to the Cook Islands. Located in the South Pacific the Cook Islands covers a group of 15 islands with a combined population of less than 20,000. The Capital is Avarua which is on the island of Rarotonga The Island of Rarotonga is where the airport is and it offers some lovely family friendly resorts. It offers everything the family needs for a great escape including that relaxing tropical feel. The island is covered in thick bush and lush vegetation and surrounded by coral reefs and superb beaches. The resorts are first class and kids clubs are available. Although most people come to the cook islands for the water activities there is plenty on offer for the land lover. Visit the waterfalls at Vaimaanga, take a pony trek, visit historical sites, take a walk throught the lush tropical valleys and visit buildings built in the 1800's. Visit the markets to buy local handicrafts and there is plenty of fresh fruit on offer as well as sarongs etc. The coolest months are June to August, while November to March is the warmer season, which also has the highest rainfall. The currency is New Zealand Dollar although there is some local currency minted for local use also. ATM's are available in the major towns and credit cards are accepted at larger resorts and shops.
