Mackay Parks and playgrounds
Bluewater Lagoon, Mackay - Opened in August 2008, the $12.7 million Lagoon now attracts more than 57,000 visitors a month. The 3,000m2 three-tiered lagoon is free and a wonderful gathering place for families.
The huge area includes a special children's water-play lagoon, a waterslide and an upper-lagoon that overlooks the blue Pioneer River. Bluewater Lagoon holds a number of free barbeques and it promotes a family friendly environment
Opening times are: • Monday to Thursday - 9am to 6pm • Friday to Sunday – 9am to 6.30pm.

Other major parks and their facilities include:
Queens Park (Goldsmith Street, Mackay): Interesting botanic collection, Orchid House featuring over 3000 plants, rotunda, play and picnic facilities, sporting ovals.
Annie Wood Park (Norris Road, North Mackay): Scenic bushland area with picnic and play facilities.
Caneland Park (off River Street): Natural setting along Pioneer River with boardwalk, play facilities and Soundshell often used for concerts and other events.
John Breen Park (Malcolmson Street, North Mackay): Regional park facility with Pioneer Pool, play and picnic facilities. This park will receive a major upgrade this year.
Gooseponds (Malcolmson Street, North Mackay): Lovely, slow-flowing waterway which attracts geese and other birdlife. This park also features 5km of walking trails, shade and exercise equipment.
Slade Point Reserve (Amhurst Street, Slade Point): This park includes an outstanding natural area with Melaleuca wetlands, bushland areas, walking trails, interpretation pieces and ocean views.
Quota Park (Binnington Esplanade, East Mackay): Disabled facilities including viewing platform, scented gardens. Play equipment, covered tables and chairs, electric barbecues. Picturesque beachside setting.
Muller Park (Boundary Road, Ooralea): Model railway, picnic facilities and shade.
