Macleay Island - Is just one of several islands nestled in the sheltered waters of Moreton Bay (off Brisbane). The island is practically untouched by tourism. These islands are tidal with mangroves along most shore lines. If you are looking for white sandy beaches and palm trees, you are at the wrong place. However, you can rent a waterfront holiday home starting at just $100 per night for the family with everything provided. The kids will have a ball climbing amongst the trees on the shoreline or exploring the mud flats. The waters are perfect for canoes or kayaks. The island has bike paths on the southern end and a small park and swimming area at the Northern End. Access is by barge from Redland Bay which will cost you around $60 return for a 4WD less for smaller cars. Bring your supplies as the two supermarkets stock basics and are understandably dearer than the mainland.
