Auckland with a population of approx 1.3 million is New Zealand's largest city. Located on a thin strip of land towards the northern end of the North Island, its surrounded by water, everyone lives within half an hour of beautiful beaches, hiking trails and a dozen enchanted holiday islands. Auckland is often reffered to as the "city of sails" as 1 in 4 people in Auckland have access to a boat and many huge yachts are moored in the harbour. Rotorua is a great spot to take the family with plenty of Maori culture and thermal activity to discover. With a population of just under 70,000 this geothermal town may be a little smelly but it surrounds the stunning Lake Rotorua and was voted New Zealand's Most Beautiful City in 1999, 2000 and 2002. Rotorua's striking gardens, cobbled streets and fascinating mix of Maori and English culture make it a must visit destination. Volcanic mountains and huge crater lakes remind you that this region rests immediately above the Pacific Ring of Fire. Puffs of steam can be spotted rising from the landscape.

New Zealand's capital city Wellington, is positioned between a picturesque harbour and forested green hills. The city is home to stunning gardens, coastal walks, cultural and heritage attractions including the national museum, Te Papa. Natural attractions, such as the wild south coast, are within easy reach of the city centre.
Wellington has great shopping and nightlife. The downtown area can match New York with the number of cafes and restaurants per head. Just north of Wellington city is the Hutt Valley, an area that offers a variety of outdoor and adventure experiences, including bush walks, fishing and thrilling mountain bike tracks. The Kapiti Coast, less than an hour's drive from Wellington, is where you will discover world-class wild life sanctuaries, fantastic golf and gourmet food experiences.
The entire North Island New Zealand is extremely picturesque from the south at Wellington, Napier at the East, the gorgeous Bay of Islands up north, the ski fields, national park and lakes in the centre. The currency is the NZ Dollar, food is similar to whats on offer in Australia. ATM's are widely avialable and English is the main language. Their seasons are the same time of year as here in Australia but generally with cooler temperatures due to the country being further from the equator. They have a snow on both islands during the winter.
